Ms. Du's Art Studio
Bear Cub Mandarin is delighted to present Ms. Du's Art Studio, featuring our very own Binnan Du. Ms. Du is an artist and artisan with a rich background in education. She will be offering specialty classes starting this fall in Chinese painting and calligraphy, sewing, crocheting, paper cutting, hand crafts, flower arranging, pottery, and more. Classes are open to students age 4-16 years old. Classes are held in Mandarin (and English when needed).
Class Options
Saturdays 9/30-12/9, 10 weeks (no classes 11/25)
● CCA “Chinese Culture and Art”. parent+child course 9/30-12/9, 9:00-10:00AM.
Tuition is $650 for one parent and one child. Additional children $200 per person.
● DSP1 “Drawing, Sketching, Painting”. 9/30-12/9, 10:30-11:30AM.
Tuition is $495. $650 for one parent and one child. $30 materials fee per person.
● DSP2 “Drawing, Sketching, Painting”. 9/30-12/9, 2:30-3:30PM.

Class Descriptions
CCA Chinese Culture and Art
This course provides parents and kids with a basic introduction to China's culture, and art. The artistic and cultural developments
from the beginning of the proto-historical Bronze Age onto the Empires of Qin and Han, the Imperial States of Tang, Song, Yuan,
Ming, and Qing in an attempt are simultaneously create and express through varied artistic mediums (bronze, sculpture,
porcelain, paintings...etc).Although China has a history of about 5,000 years, we will use easy-to-understand sentences and
interpret them through various visual media, allowing participants to ask questions and answer them in a customized way. This
course also promotes parent-child relationships, Let's practice art projects and tell more Chinese culture stories together. (Practice
and Tell)
DSP1 Drawing, Painting, Sketching
Art Curriculum Guide Kids following easy 1 to 3 step instructions and visual demonstrations. Discover color as you perfect your
painting skills with pencil, watercolor, oil pastel, and oil painting. We also talk about art history and art museums. Be inspired by
contemporary and master artists to advance your own artistic proficiency.
DSP2 Drawing, Painting, Sketching
Art Curriculum Guide Kids following easy 1 to 3 step instructions and visual demonstrations. Discover color as you perfect your
painting skills with pencil, watercolor, oil pastel, and oil painting. We also talk about art history and art museums. Be inspired by

CCC Chinese Calligraphy Class
Chinese Calligraphy, or Shufa, is a unique art. It is an excellent tool for focusing and calming the mind. It allows the kid to focus
on brush, ink, and paper. Calligraphy embodies one's life feelings, knowledge, cultivation, personality, and hobbies. 10-week kid's
calligraphy class including explanation, writing exercises; creation. Calligraphy is also related to ink painting, literature and
poetry, seal cutting, music, dance, etc.
*Classes are held in Mandarin (English may be used for support) at Bear Cub Mandarin Immersion Preschool, 1042 Massachusetts Ave.,
Arlington. Ages 4-16 years old. All classes are one hour in length. See policy page for more details including payment options and absence
and make up policies. Class size is 4-6 students. If a class does not have the minimum 4 students, it may
be postponed or rescheduled.

Binnan Du brings more than 20 years of teaching experience to Bear Cub Mandarin, along with an advanced Art degree from Central Academy of Fine Arts(中央美院), Beijing, China, as well as professional knowledge and training from the Art Practice program at both Academy of Art University and Stanford University in California U.S.
Ms. Du has focused her expertise as an art teacher and Mandarin teacher over the past 10 years in California, Texas, and Massachusetts working with students age 3-18 years old. In China, she taught Chinese language, culture, and art to international students for more than 10 years at Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU 北京外国语大学). She first became interested in early childhood education starting with her Montessori preschool internship teaching both Art and Mandarin.
Binnan is a native Chinese speaker with a substantial background of teaching in a bilingual setting both in China and the U.S. She has taught Chinese and Art in preschool, after-school ,IB program, and adult education. She has taught art to college students and AP Chinese to high school students. Deeply rooted in both US and Chinese culture, Binnan’s goal and vision is to provide each student with age-appropriate learning experiences to achieve the three fundamental elements: technique, creativity, and enjoyment. These three elements are crucial in fostering self-confidence and self-expression.
