Ivy earned a BM degree in piano performance at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan in 2019, and in 2020, won a scholarship to study with Corrine Byrne in a MM degree program at Longy School of Music of Bard College. In 2022, Ivy was awarded a scholarship for a Therapeutic Musician - Certified Music Practitioner, Music for Healing and Transition Program, Inc. Since 2015, she has maintained a private studio teaching piano to students aged 6 to 60, incorporating the Dalcroze Method and eurhythmics into all her classes. In 2022, Ivy joined the team at Bear Cub Mandarin Immersion Preschool Academy, Infant and Toddler Center as an early childhood eurhythmics teacher and music specialist educator.

Ivy believes that “Children are Born Musicians”. Children who are taught to experience and appreciate music through physicality can develop a greater sense of rhythm, harmony, and melody. The Dalcroze method provides a multi-dimensional approach to music learning, which is readily applicable to young children. She also enjoys reading, cooking, and camping in her free time!

About the Dalcroze Method

What is Dalcroze?

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is the oldest of the three main music teaching methods in the world, and has been used in music therapy for over a century. Dalcroze Eurhythmics was developed by Swiss musician and educator Émile Jaques-Dalcroze.

Dalcroze studies the learning process of "observing, experiencing, thinking" of J. H. Pestalozzi, a child development educator, and advocates that in addition to intellectual training, children's development should pay equal attention to both mind and body. The philosophy of Dalcroze's teaching method is to "form musical awareness through bodily experience", and regard "singing voice" and "body" as the basis of music learning. The method includes solfège, eurhythmics, and piano improvisation allowing children to cultivate their concentration, aural discernment, and strengths of all memories.

Dalcroze believes that the performance of any musical instrument needs to show inner feelings and thoughts through body movements. Movement experience is the medium for discovering musical materials and sensing musical information; when movements become the external expression of sound, abstract concepts will become more concrete. The highest level of Dalcroze teaching method "Plastique Animée” uses exquisite and smooth body creation to visualize the musical form and structure of music. Dance is the analysis of music. Students who study Dalcroze have clear thinking and imagination in music, and the method has also influenced countless art and literary elites such as Vatslav Nijinsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Orff Schulwerk, Kodály method and Montessori.

This rhythm course will introduce children to the beauty of music through combining the Dalcroze Method with singing.
